Prevailing Wage

What is the "prevailing wage"?
The Prevailing Wage is the predetermined hourly wage for the classification of work performed, including fringe benefits. The rate is established by the U.S. Department of Labor and not your employer.

Classifications
Job Classifications or titles for each craft and the function that each classification is allowed to perform are predetermined by the U.S. Department of Labor, and not your employer. You must be paid the correct rate for each classification.

Apprenticeship - Training
On a Prevailing Wage contract, you may be paid less than the prevailing wage for a classification, only if you are individually registered in a program approved by the U.S. Department of Labor. There are no exceptions.

Employee Records
A responsible worker keeps a personal record of each job he/she works on. Records should include the name of the project, type of work performed, name of employer, and all hours worked. This record should reflect each classification worked in on a daily basis. Remember to keep each week's record with its corresponding check stub and save them. These records are important to you!
